Slab leaks — the expensive one
Our soil expands and contracts hard between wet springs and cracked-dirt Augusts. That movement stresses supply lines under the slab. Warm spots on the floor, the sound of running water with everything off, an unexplained jump in the water bill, or a section of carpet that stays damp are the classic signs.
Do not wait on this one. A located and repaired slab leak runs roughly $1,500 to $4,500. The same leak ignored for two months adds flooring, drywall and possible mold remediation on top.
Water heaters
- Typical tank life in this area is 8 to 12 years. Check the date code on the label.
