Roof Size vs. Home Square Footage: An OKC Estimate Guide

Why home square footage is not roof area, how stories and slope affect a ballpark, and what to confirm before replacing an Oklahoma City roof.

Your home's size is a starting point, not a roof measurement

An Oklahoma City home's listed living area describes indoor floor space. A roof estimate needs the surface area being covered. Those numbers can differ substantially: a two-story house has living space on two floors, while covered porches, garages and overhangs may add roof area without adding living area. Entering your home size can produce a useful first ballpark, but it is not a final measurement.

Stories, slope and roof shape change the result

A sloped roof has more surface area than its flat footprint. Roofs with several hips, valleys, dormers or separate sections need more detailed measurement than a simple rectangular roof. ServiceTitan's measurement guide accounts for base area, pitch and eaves. Our calculator uses home size, stories and a slope category to approximate roof area; it cannot map every feature of your house.

What does a roofing square mean?

One roofing square represents 100 square feet of roof surface. If a contractor has measured your roof in squares, choose the roof-size option in the 405 Pros calculator instead of entering living area. Do not substitute the home's floor area for measured roof area. Customers see an overall ballpark total, not a per-square price.

Why the on-site estimate still matters

The inspector checks the actual roof size and scope, including pitch, layers to remove, decking condition, flashing, vents and skylights. Ask which items are included and how hidden damage would be handled if discovered during tear-off. The online figure is a planning estimate, not a binding quote or a promise that every possible repair is included.

Get a ballpark safely, then confirm the details

Use the information you already have, such as a property listing or a previous contractor measurement. Do not climb onto a roof to improve an estimate. On our Roofing page, compare the Standard 10-year and Premium 25-year packages, note a color preference and request a free on-site estimate. 405 Pros serves Oklahoma City, Edmond, Norman, Moore, Yukon, Mustang, Midwest City, Del City and Bethany.
